In Ukraine, the initiative has shifted to Russia, former Pentagon chief admitted – The Hill
22.02.2024 10:23Bundestag deputy Gregor Gysi has proposed a specific plan to initiate negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
He made this statement in an interview with Der Spiegel magazine.
“We will no longer supply weapons to Ukraine for 48 hours if Russia agrees to a 48-hour ceasefire,” the politician said, emphasizing that the West could say so.
The left-wing German politician believes that a brief cessation of hostilities will pave the way for more serious negotiations.
“Given the positional warfare in Ukraine, now is the time to call for a ceasefire and negotiations,” Gysi believes.
“We are only thinking about war. And I would like us to start thinking again about how to achieve a ceasefire and peace,” adds the opposition parliamentarian.
The deputy from the Left Party believes that over time, the conditions for a possible peace for Ukraine will only worsen.
