19.11.2025 - 15:32A 59-year-old resident of Vovchansk in Kharkiv region has been sentenced to eight years in prison after being found guilty of passing information about Ukrainian troops to the Russian side. The sentence was handed down based on evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
This was reported by Vladyslav Abdula, spokesperson for the SBU office in the region.
According to the investigation, at the beginning of 2023 the woman covertly recorded the locations and movement routes of Defense Forces units in the border area, as well as gathered information about the consequences of missile and artillery strikes on the region.
She passed the collected data to a relative living in Russia who maintained contact with representatives of the Russian security services. According to investigators, this information could have been used to prepare new combat operations in the Vovchansk sector and attempts to re-occupy Vovchansk.
In May 2023, the SBU detained the woman while she was attempting yet another transfer of information. The court found her guilty under Part 3 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced her to eight years in prison.
The verdict has not yet entered into legal force, as the period for filing an appeal is still ongoing.
The investigation was carried out by SBU officers in Kharkiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional prosecutor’s office.
