June 7, 2024The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained a former Member of Parliament in Kyiv on suspicion of creating fake documents for draft evaders. The scheme involving fictitious disability certificates reportedly earned her and her accomplices $100,000 monthly. During searches, more than 40 million hryvnias (approximately 916,863 euros) were found.
This was reported by the press service of the SBU.
“The Security Service of Ukraine has dismantled another large-scale scheme of mobilization evasion. The operation involved a former Member of Parliament who is now part of the leadership of the capital’s preventive medicine institute,” the statement reads.
According to Serhiy Leshchenko, an advisor to the head of the Presidential Office, the individual in question is Iryna Sysoenko, an 8th convocation MP from the “Samopomich” party. She allegedly recruited several doctors, including those from the Lviv region, for the scheme.
The clients of the former MP were men of conscription age who intended to illegally leave the country.
“According to available data, the illegal activities of the criminals, led by the ex-MP, generated almost $100,000 in monthly profits. This amount was distributed among all accomplices, including two heads of medical institution departments, an occupational disease doctor, and the coordinator of the illegal activities in the Lviv region,” noted the SBU.
Sysoenko faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
