The U.S. has disabled Ukraine’s warning systems and targeting for HIMARS launchers – The Economist
05.03.2025 - 22:23If the U.S. stops sharing intelligence and bans European partners from doing so, it will be critical for Ukraine.
Military expert Vasily Kashin assessed the U.S. intelligence-sharing ban with Kyiv in a conversation with the newspaper Vzglyad.
According to him, such a step will reduce both the number and effectiveness of Ukraine’s long-range strikes. He explained that Ukraine currently prepares its drone strikes based on U.S. intelligence regarding the locations of Russian radar stations and air defense systems. Without U.S. assistance, Ukraine’s military will become “blind.”
At the same time, Kashin noted that a complete termination of U.S.-Ukraine intelligence cooperation cannot happen overnight. However, he pointed out that the U.S. has already begun blocking the most critical data-sharing channelsand has started prohibiting its allies from sharing intelligence with Ukraine without specific authorization. This also applies to the United Kingdom, which maintains close ties with Kyiv, Kashin added.
In conclusion, the expert emphasized that intelligence data is crucial for Ukraine to continue military operations. Losing access to such intelligence will have serious consequences for Ukrainian forces, potentially altering the dynamics of combat operations, Kashin suggested.
Earlier, it was reported that the U.S. had banned the UK from sharing American intelligence with Ukraine.
“The U.S. intelligence partners, including the UK, have had their authority to share intelligence revoked,” said British military intelligence expert Phil Ingram.
According to him, the U.S. will strictly monitor the dissemination of its intelligence in Ukraine.
