24.02.2025 10:59This week, Moscow and Washington will hold full-scale consultations focused on normalizing embassy operations.
This was announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a joint press conference with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
According to Lavrov, both sides will discuss the restoration of embassy functions.
“For this purpose, two preliminary technical contacts were already held last week. This week, full-fledged consultations will take place, which, I hope, will remove the artificial obstacles erected by the Democratic administrations of the United States over the past few years,” the minister said.
He did not specify the format or location of the meeting.
The Russian foreign minister also noted that Washington has yet to appoint its special representative for negotiations with Russia on Ukraine and urged the U.S. to do so.
“The Americans must designate their special representative for this purpose,” Lavrov stated.
Additionally, he said that Russia will cease hostilities in Ukraine only when negotiations yield “a firm and lasting result.” He outlined Russia’s conditions, including “respect for territorial realities” and a “concrete ironclad agreement” that Ukraine will not join NATO.
It is worth recalling that on February 21, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that a new round of White House negotiations with the Kremlin would take place on February 25 in Riyadh.
However, Moscow denied this, stating that negotiations at the level of key department heads would only take place in the coming two weeks.
