A scandal arose in the Odessa region over the arrangement of a church in a school shelter

In Podilsk, Odessa Oblast, a Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church was converted into a shelter for schoolchildren, causing a scandal as Lyceum No. 2, which uses this premises, lacks alternative shelter.

The underground structure, located on the territory of an old summer stage, is privately owned. The owner allowed children to take shelter there so that the lyceum could operate in-person, and later sold the premises to the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. The church installed an altar and iconostasis there and began holding services.

Parents were concerned that their children would now be left without shelter or would be introduced to religious services.

As a result, both parties agreed that the shelter would be used by both children and the church until the end of the school year. Curtains will be hung around the altar, and services will be held in the evening to avoid overlap with the children.

Meanwhile, the lyceum will continue to search for new shelter, which is a challenge in the city.
