A Ukrainian Armed Forces commander reported that over 90% of those fighting on the front lines are forcibly mobilized villagers

More than 90% of soldiers on the front lines are forcibly mobilized residents of villages and small towns.

This was reported by Myroslav Borysenko, a commander of a mortar battery in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

According to him, almost all of the men in his battery come from the “wave of busification.”

“There are practically no residents of large cities. We have just one. And then there’s me. In 2022, the social composition was very different. Now, it’s residents of small towns and villages, making up more than 90 percent. Almost all of them were conscripted through ‘busification.’ The stories they tell are frighteningly humorous. They are all about how someone was going somewhere, and then suddenly, this happened to them. One of the fighters was looking for a job through a listing, as a builder, traveled to the Chernivtsi region, met with the foreman, handed over his documents, and the foreman turned out to be an agent of a territorial recruitment center,” Borysenko recounted.

He added that in villages, there are people who, for unclear reasons—perhaps to avoid being mobilized themselves—work for the territorial recruitment centers and report those who evade and hide.

“I think there are no more draft evaders left in rural areas, as there’s nowhere for them to hide. Draft evaders (I apologize for using this term—it is meant broadly) are all in the cities. They’re all there; an evader doesn’t hide in a dugout in the forest but rather in Kyiv, Odesa, and Dnipro,” Borysenko concluded.
