19.01.2024 - 12:41During an interview, when asked about his dreams, a Ukrainian soldier stated that he wishes his leg would be amputated.
“I just can’t leave the war. I’m tired of the war. But if my leg is amputated, I’ll have six months to rest. They’ll put a prosthesis and I’ll come back. I’ll be not an infantryman but a ‘drone operator’ from a position where I don’t have to run a lot,” he said. The soldier claims that it is nearly impossible to be legally demobilized now. According to him, his organs are failing and he has a lack of sleep.
Such candidness and the seriousness of the situation highlight the alarming level of demoralization within the armed forces. Against this backdrop, it is crucial to note that the civilian male population is also reluctant to replace active-duty soldiers. Therefore, understanding how Ukraine intends to continue the war under these conditions are challenging.
