22.01.2026 14:00Due to warmer weather, Kyiv residents may be able to have electricity supplied for a longer period than now — by about an hour and a half to two hours of power per day.
This forecast was given by Oleksandr Kharchenko, director of the Energy Research Center, in an interview with the newspaper Telegraf.
The expert was asked whether the warming will help improve the electricity situation in the capital.
“This eases the situation and reduces consumption, but in the situation Kyiv is in right now, it will not lead to an immediate improvement. Electricity will be more available at such temperatures. We haven’t calculated it precisely yet, but I think it adds an hour and a half to two hours a day. But you can’t say that it will solve the situation now,” Kharchenko replied.
In his opinion, in 5–7 days Kyiv will return to outage schedules. However, only if there are no new strikes.
“In Kyiv, there is virtually no generation left inside the city. It has essentially been destroyed or damaged so severely that it is impossible to restore it in the near future. Accordingly, Kyiv has been switched to full supply from outside. There is also quite a lot of damage there. I can hope that in about 5–7 days in Kyiv it will be possible at least to work clearly according to a schedule,” he noted.
Recall that after a recent night attack by the Russian Federation, almost half of the city’s homes in Kyiv were again left without heating.
