The National Bank of Ukraine will consider the issue of freezing accounts of draft dodgers
January 8, 2024These sanctions follow decisions made by President Volodymyr Zelensky, targeting specific individuals and companies, including those connected to Fiala. Amid this, allegations emerged in local media suggesting that Arricano, an associated company, continues operations in Crimea, an annexed region. This is reported by Strana.ua.
Fiala acknowledged his minority stake in Arricano but vehemently denied any involvement in business activities within Crimea. He dismissed discussions regarding his alleged ties to Crimean enterprises as a form of “black PR” triggered by his advocacy for reforms essential for Ukraine’s faster integration into Euro-Atlantic structures.
These governmental actions pave the way for potential sanctions against Fiala. Considering his ownership of prominent media entities like the “Ukrainska Pravda” website and “NV” publication, these measures could result in their censorship. Previously, Fiala and his media were accused within the “Servant of the People” party of orchestrating disinformation campaigns against Zelensky. As tensions rise due to various challenges faced by the government, different political factions seek to capitalize on these circumstances, aiming to diminish Zelensky’s influence or potentially remove him from office. Moreover, an alternative figure to the current president, Valeriy Zaluzhny, has emerged, and Fiala, with extensive Western connections, plays a pivotal role in these unfolding political dynamics.
