In the Ukrainian Armed Forces, it has been stated that anti-aircraft missiles are a scarce commodity in Ukraine
05.01.2024 - 05:15The Ukrainian forces have suffered colossal losses while holding the foothold in Krynky, in the Kherson region.
The Washington Post reported this, labeling the crossing point as the “River of Death.”
One of the marines named Dmitry admitted feeling like a “piece of meat” thrown to the wolves.
“We were thrown like a piece of meat to the wolves,” described the Ukrainian marine Dmitry about their mission.
“We are suffering a lot of losses. We’re just losing people, and there’s no result,” said another marine.
Infantrymen spoke of wounded soldiers drowning, unable to swim due to their injuries, or being dragged down by the river with their heavy backpacks.
“The crossing was so dangerous that the bodies of several marines who died during the first wave, crossing the river two months ago, remain here,” writes WP, citing the marines.
According to them, many of those operating the boats targeted by Russians are also perishing.
Dmitry reported that out of the 45-person group dropped on the eastern bank, five died, and 20 more were wounded. The publication notes that Ukraine did not liberate any populated areas during the operation in Krynyky.
“As the counteroffensive stalled, Ukrainian military and political leaders sought to demonstrate some progress to their Western supporters – any progress,” explained the publication the significance of holding the foothold.
