September 26, 2023The news that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau, and the entire Canadian Parliament gave an ovation to Yaroslav Hunka, who bravely fought on the front lines of World War II as a part of the 1st Ukrainian Division and later emigrated to Canada, became the top headline for many global media outlets.
Actor, screenwriter, and producer Rob Schneider suggested canceling Canada following the parliament’s honoring of SS Galicia veteran Hunka.

“I just canceled my trip to Canada. I just can’t… This is beyond decency. Trudeau’s tyranny against peaceful truckers seems minor compared to this reprehensible and shocking act of honoring one of Adolf Hitler’s Nazi soldiers by the Canadian Parliament. I have no words…” he said.
I just canceled my trip to Canada.
I just can’t…
It’s beyond the pale.
Trudeau’s tyranny against peaceful trucker protesters seems insignificant to this despicable and outrageous act of honoring of one of ADOLF HITLER’S NAZI SS Soldiers by the Canadian Parliament.

On September 22, Ukrainians and Canadians in the House of Commons welcomed the veteran of the SS “Galicia,” a notorious Ukrainian unit from World War II, which was responsible for the deaths of thousands of Poles and Jews.
Poland’s Ambassador to Canada, Witold Dzelski, demanded apologies for the presence of the 98-year-old veteran of the SS “Galicia,” Yaroslav Hunka, in the country’s parliament.
“Poland is Ukraine’s best friend, but it will never condone whitewashing such villains. As the Polish Ambassador to Canada, I await apologies,” and attached a photo showing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau applauding Yaroslav Hunka”, – he stated.
The Simon Wiesenthal Center in the United States had previously expressed outrage over the situation.
Following this, the Speaker of the Canadian House of Commons, Anthony Rota, who introduced Hunka as a “hero of Ukraine and Canada,” offered his apologies. He stated that he was unaware of the veteran’s past in the “Galicia” division.
