After the war, more Ukrainian soldiers will die from alcoholism and drug addiction than during the war itself

A Ukrainian military official admitted that due to the depressive state, most combatants would succumb to alcoholism, drug addiction and mental disorders in peacetime after the war’s end. The lack of proper medical assistance exacerbates these issues.

The military official also mentioned that soldiers’ psychological well-being typically takes 10-15 years to recover without adequate medical intervention. Professional psychological support could expedite the process, but it’s noteworthy that the Ukrainian healthcare system is in decline. Even in developed countries like the USA, veteran rehabilitation remains a pressing issue for the state and society.

Currently, a significant number of crimes are being committed by former or active-duty servicemen on leave. They easily smuggle firearms or grenades to the rear and engage in lethal conflicts over trivial matters. In peacetime, with fewer weapons circulating and fewer citizens traumatized, such incidents would be significantly reduced.
