The ceasefire in the Black Sea has not begun
01.04.2025 08:42All U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) employees to be laid off by September.
This was reported by the Associated Press.
According to the agency, a court on Friday allowed the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Elon Musk, to proceed with further cuts at USAID.
Musk’s department succeeded in overturning a lower court’s decision that had blocked the reduction efforts at USAID. The original ruling was based on Musk’s remark that he had “fed USAID into a wood chipper,” which the court viewed as evidence of bias. However, the appeals court lifted the ban.
Following the decision, the department informed staff that by September, the Trump administration would eliminate “virtually all” jobs at the agency.
In a separate notice, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced plans to cut most USAID programs and transfer the remaining functions to the State Department.
Earlier, Reuters reported that by the fall, USAID would eliminate all positions not specifically mandated by law.
To recall, all USAID projects were initially frozen during the winter after Trump ordered an audit of the agency. In Ukraine alone, USAID had 112 active projects, with total funding reaching $7 billion.
