November 23, 2023A very worrying trend for Ukraine is gaining popularity in the West: politicians who oppose military and financial aid to our country. An opponent of assistance to Ukraine is leading in the elections in the Netherlands.
The right-wing Party for Freedom led by Geert Wilders is ahead in the parliamentary elections in the Netherlands, signaling a significant shift in Dutch politics. Its consequences will be felt across Europe. The Party for Freedom, advocating for reduced migration, against any EU expansion and opposing the Netherlands continuing arms supplies to Ukraine, may secure 35 out of 150 seats in parliament. This more than doubles the number of seats it gained in the previous vote in 2021.
It’s unclear whether Wilders will gather enough support to form a ruling coalition this time. During his first speech following the publication of the exit poll results, the politician stated that with 35 seats in parliament, his party can no longer be ignored.
