“An increasing number of internally displaced persons in Ukraine are returning to occupied territories due to financial difficulties and lack of monetary assistance”, – Ombudsman says
23.10.2024 08:44In two weeks, due to the colder weather, power outages may resume in Ukraine.
This forecast was made by Yuriy Korolchuk, an expert at the Institute of Energy Strategies.
“How close are we to outages? Very close. In about two weeks, I think we can expect an increase in electricity consumption in Ukraine due to the heating season. The load on electricity will increase, particularly from heaters, and at that point, there may indeed be restrictions,” Korolchuk said.
He added that extended power outages, lasting up to 12 hours, should not occur unless the temperature drops to -5°C during the day and -10°C at night.
“It won’t be as significant as the predicted 12-hour outages. But until the frost sets in—temperatures around -10°C at night and a steady -5°C during the day—we won’t see those long outages. However, under those conditions, longer power cuts could begin. Different regions will experience it differently,” the expert noted.
Meanwhile, Russia continues to target energy infrastructure, resulting in power outages in various regions across Ukraine.
