October 31, 2023In the Dnipropetrovsk region, the head of a department within a military unit has been sentenced for embezzling approximately 3.5 million hryvnias (around 90,800 euros) in “combat” payments for fictitious personnel.

The head of the personnel department of a military unit’s headquarters has been found guilty of embezzling property on a particularly large scale and has been sentenced to seven and a half years of imprisonment with asset confiscation, according to the prosecutor’s office.
The convicted individual, along with an accomplice, obtained the personal information of several citizens, fraudulently enlisted them for military service, and included them in the orders for payments, ostensibly for their participation in combat operations.
Payments were made to bank accounts controlled by the wrongdoers.
The prosecution has proven that they unlawfully obtained 3.5 million hryvnias.
The investigation into the actions of the accomplice is ongoing in a separate proceeding, as stated in the report.
