“Talks between Russia and the U.S. are a “personal victory” for Putin,” – Zelensky
12.08.2025 21:01The Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has become the most popular political force in Germany, overtaking the Christian Democratic Union (CDU).
This was reported by the tabloid Bild, citing a fresh poll by the Forsa Institute.
According to the survey, conducted for the RTL and N-TV channels, AfD’s support level reached 26%, while the CDU received 24%. The Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and the Green Party each polled at 13%, and The Left party at 11%. At the same time, the share of undecided voters remains high — 25%.
It is noted that Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s approval ratings continue to decline: only 29% of respondents are satisfied with his work (down 3% from before), while 67% are dissatisfied.
An alternative INSA-Meinungstrend poll shows a slight difference: 27% for the CDU and 25% for AfD, but also records a decline in the popularity of the ruling parties.
AfD is known for its tough stance against providing military and financial aid to Ukraine. Party representatives have repeatedly stated that supporting Kyiv “draws Germany into the conflict” and that resources should be redirected to domestic needs.
The rise in AfD’s popularity, which began after a brief decline in the summer, is linked by experts not only to a drop in trust toward the government but also to growing support for the party’s anti-crisis and isolationist rhetoric.
