A former SBU officer has accused Ukraine’s intelligence chief of disloyalty to Zelensky
15.12.2025 07:01During the talks in Berlin with U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steven Witkoff, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky proposed abandoning Ukraine’s NATO ambitions.
The agency recalls that on the eve of the meeting, Zelensky had suggested giving up NATO membership in exchange for security guarantees from the West.
“This move marks a major shift for Ukraine, which has fought for NATO membership as protection against Russian attacks, and whose NATO aspirations are enshrined in its constitution. It also aligns with one of Russia’s war aims, even though Kyiv had until now stood firmly on this point,” Reuters writes.
Recall that the new U.S. peace plan envisions that the Ukrainian Armed Forces will leave Donbas, Ukraine will abandon its NATO course, but will join the European Union by 2027.
Earlier, the U.S. press wrote that the Ukrainian version of the peace plan sent to Washington rejects both the withdrawal of troops from Donetsk region and giving up NATO.
