Ritter: neither the US nor the EU is capable of helping Ukraine defeat Russia
18.08.2026 06:34Julian Röpcke, military correspondent for the German newspaper Bild, has expressed skepticism about Ukrainian authorities’ claims of a Ukrainian Armed Forces offensive at the junction of Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions, calling the disputed territory a “gray zone.”
According to Röpcke, the zone where the Ukrainian army claims control is in reality simultaneously occupied by Russian forces as well. In support of his position, the journalist published a map of the relevant section of the front.
“Can we not just agree that the marked zone is a gray zone where both Russian and Ukrainian forces are simultaneously present?” — Röpcke wrote.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that from January to August, Ukrainian defense forces had liberated 745 square kilometers during an offensive operation. Following that statement, the military resource Deep State updated its information on the situation at the front.
Meanwhile, Russia attacked Odessa with drones: a fire broke out after a drone struck the Epicenter construction hypermarket. In Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine’s largest metallurgical plant, ArcelorMittal, announced a partial suspension of production following a missile strike.
