Switzerland believes that Russia should be invited to the peace summit on Ukraine
January 21, 2024Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico has stated that he will inform his Ukrainian counterpart, Denis Shmyhal, during their meeting in Uzhhorod on January 24, that he intends to block Ukraine’s NATO membership.
Fico made this announcement in an interview on the local channel RTVS.
“I know what I’m bringing to the meeting with the Ukrainian prime minister. I’m coming with humanitarian aid to confirm that they won’t receive any weapons from the Slovak army and state depots. I will state that there are issues on which our views completely differ. Regarding their entry into the European Union, we respect that, but they must meet the conditions. I will say that I am against Ukraine’s NATO membership; I will use the right of veto and block it because it would be the foundation of the Third World War,” Fico declared.
Earlier, Fico had already stated his intention to block Ukraine’s NATO accession.
“I believe this will never happen. As long as I have the opportunity to influence the Slovak political scene, I will use the right to veto such a decision,” the Slovak Prime Minister stated.
Fico has also previously indicated that Slovakia will not provide military assistance to Ukraine.
