October 20, 2023In Kharkiv, there is outdoor advertising offering Ukrainian military personnel the option to purchase bulletproof vests on credit.
This campaign is being conducted by “PrivatBank,” which was once owned by the now-arrested oligarch Igor Kolomoisky. Reports about this have circulated among Ukrainians on social media.
It appears that tens of billions of dollars in Western aid have been directed toward different purposes. Ukrainian military personnel have been widely expressing dissatisfaction with the bulletproof vests provided to them by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which they claim are of poor quality. There have even been cases where Ukrainian soldiers were equipped with protective vests meant for airsoft games. Instead, they are offered an alternative: pay for a proper product.
It’s worth noting that unconventional marketing tactics like this have been seen in Ukraine before. In April, a funeral service company named “Pryadko” in Kyiv announced a special promotion for military personnel and their families: “Buy two coffins, get the third one for free! Follow our group for new promotions.”
