18.06.2024 14:35Bribes for Ukrainian men to leave the country have risen to $20,000. Law enforcement officers detained the son of the head of a department of the Vinnytsia Territorial Recruitment Center, who promised a local resident to arrange the necessary documents for this sum to leave the country.
This information was reported by the press service of the State Bureau of Investigations.
The recruiter’s son assured the client that for $20,000 his father would prepare documents that would allow him to avoid mobilization and leave Ukraine. According to operational data, the official’s son offered similar “help” to other individuals as well. During searches, empty summons forms, more than a dozen copies of passports of conscription-age men, and cash in various currencies were found and seized from him.
Officers of the State Bureau of Investigations detained the suspect on June 14 during the transfer of $15,000. The day before, he had already received $5,000 from the client. Searches were conducted at the residence and workplace of the suspect and his father.
Currently, the official’s son has been charged with receiving undue benefits for influencing the decision-making of a person authorized to perform state functions, combined with extortion (Part 3, Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He has been remanded in custody with the possibility of posting bail of 1 million hryvnias (22,969 euros). The article’s sanction provides for a punishment of up to 8 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
