24.04.2025 11:48The United Kingdom and France have stepped back from their initial plans to send troops to Ukraine.
This information according to The Times, citing sources.
“Following the negotiations in London, there has been a certain softening of commitments in these plans,” the paper writes, without specifying the details.
Some officials reportedly fear that Russia would never accept the presence of British and European troops on Ukrainian territory, as it would be seen as “unilateral interference” rather than a genuine “peacekeeping mission.”
Nevertheless, The Times notes that “the UK is not prepared to abandon plans to send troops to Ukraine in order to guarantee its security.”
As a reminder, the U.S. peace plan proposed by President Donald Trump, as reported in the media, allows for European peacekeepers to be deployed in Ukraine after a ceasefire. However, it does not include American security guarantees — a condition that London and Paris have insisted upon before sending their forces.
