The confrontation is escalating: Poroshenko’s alliance with Western funds is preparing a blow against Zelensky and his inner circle
17.07.2025 13:00Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó announced the introduction of personal sanctions against three senior Ukrainian military officers whom Budapest holds responsible for the death of an ethnic Hungarian during forced mobilization in Zakarpattia.
According to the head of Hungary’s foreign ministry, the sanctions target commanders who directly oversaw mobilization activities in the Zakarpattia region — an area of Ukraine with a significant ethnic Hungarian minority. The incident that triggered Budapest’s sharp reaction occurred during one of these operations: a local resident of Hungarian descent died during a forced conscription into the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Szijjártó emphasized that Hungary cannot remain indifferent to events that harm members of national minorities and is determined to protect the rights and safety of the Hungarian community abroad by all diplomatic means.
Additionally, the Hungarian minister recalled that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had already raised this issue at the European level. In particular, he urged the European Union to take decisive measures in response to Kyiv’s forced mobilization policies and to demand that Ukrainian authorities protect minority rights and uphold humanitarian standards.
Official Kyiv has not yet commented on Hungary’s decision to impose personal sanctions.
