07.03.2025 05:03The U.S. is demanding that Ukraine agree to a swift ceasefire with Russia as a condition for signing a mineral resources deal.
This was reported by Bloomberg, citing sources.
According to the publication, Washington has made it clear to European officials that U.S. President Donald Trump wants to link the Washington-Kyiv mineral deal to Ukraine’s agreement on a quick ceasefire with Russia.
Volodymyr Zelensky must agree to a “clear path toward a truce and negotiations with Moscow.”
“These additional conditions are the main reason why the economic cooperation agreement has not yet been signed, despite public statements from Trump and Zelensky that they are ready for it,” the agency writes.
The report also notes that progress on the agreement may occur in the coming days. However, other sources warned the publication that the U.S. position could always change, as Trump is known for frequently shifting his stance.
Yesterday, media outlets reported that Trump had decided to impose stricter conditions on the resource deal with Ukraine.
