17.07.2024 08:46Under martial law, Ukrainian authorities are unable to hold parliamentary elections, which prevents them from fully performing their duties.
This was reported by The New York Times.
The authors of the article believe that chaos reigns in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. They note that, according to the constitution, the parliament has more powers than the president.
“Under martial law, it is impossible to hold elections and replace deputies who have changed jobs, joined the army or fled the country,” the publication explains.
Journalists claim that 10% of legislators are absent from sessions. At the same time, the ruling “Servant of the People” party has effectively lost power.
The article asserts that the confusion “negates the significance of the Rada,” and in this context, opponents of the current leadership are becoming more active.
This disarray has also intensified criticism that President Zelensky’s office has accumulated too much power, in addition to the authority already granted to him under the martial law imposed in the country.
