11.03.2026 - 18:05The Czech government is planning to tighten the rules for bus transportation between Ukraine and the Czech Republic.
This was reported by the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies (the lower house of the Czech parliament), Tomio Okamura.
“The governing coalition plans to tighten the conditions for bus travel between Ukraine and the Czech Republic,” the CTK news agency quoted him as saying.
“Various goods are being smuggled into the Czech Republic from Ukraine, including items of military use, even weapons. There are a huge number of dishonest carriers operating here. … We have found that many of them don’t even pay taxes,” Okamura said.
According to him, about 2 million people regularly travel between the Czech Republic and Ukraine.
“It has turned into an open corridor, and we have no idea who is coming into the Czech Republic,” the Speaker said.
He added that many transport companies do not have permits for regular services and circumvent this requirement by declaring that they organize only sightseeing tours from Ukraine.
