28.01.2025 - 19:20The Director of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergey Naryshkin, has suggested that experts from the Russian Historical Society, along with historians from other countries, discuss the issue of territorial claims to Ukrainian lands.
He shared this idea during an interview with a correspondent from TASS.
“This is a serious question with a very deep historical background,” Naryshkin said in response to a question about whether the division of Ukraine’s territory among neighboring states could be possible in the future.
“I have proposed to my colleagues from the Russian Historical Society to discuss this issue from a historical perspective. And we will definitely do so. We will also try to invite historians from other countries, such as Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia,” he added.
In November 2024, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte stated that Ukraine, given the current situation on the frontlines, is losing its territories and therefore needs continued support.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly said that his country will not cease military actions or surrender territories to achieve peace. Later, Zelensky acknowledged that Kyiv lacks the strength to reclaim its territories and emphasized that the issue must be resolved diplomatically.
