“Donnyland”: Ukraine proposed that the US name part of the Donbas under its control after Trump — NYT

Ukraine proposed to the United States that part of the Donbas under its control be called “Donnyland” in honor of U.S. President Donald Trump.

This was reported by The New York Times, citing sources.

Such a proposal, “appealing to the vanity of the U.S. president,” was mentioned “partly as a joke” by one of the Ukrainian negotiators during contacts with the United States in recent months. After that, the term was occasionally used in conversations, but no progress followed.

One of the Ukrainian negotiators even created a flag for “Donnyland” in green-and-gold colors and a national anthem with the help of the ChatGPT artificial intelligence model.

More concretely, the talks discussed a “Monaco model” — a semi-autonomous microstate with offshore status. The phrase “Monaco model” even appeared in draft agreements.

As a reminder, yesterday Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky once again refused to withdraw troops from Donetsk region. In addition, Volodymyr Zelensky said that his American counterpart Donald Trump cannot be a guarantor of peace in Ukraine.
