August 2, 2024Almost 60% of Ukrainians support the start of negotiations with Russia – survey
August 2, 2024International road transport companies are considering hiring women and foreigners as drivers.
This information was shared with Ukrainian media by the vice president of the relevant association, Volodymyr Balin.
Currently, the shortage of drivers in companies belonging to the association is 30%, which amounts to about 30,000 people.
“Unfortunately, we had this problem in Ukraine even before the full-scale invasion. Now it has deepened because a large number of people have left, and some are afraid to get behind the wheel as they do not want to be constantly under the watchful eyes of the territorial recruitment centers and the police,” Balin said.
Transport companies are trying to address the personnel shortage in various ways. Some are already trying to hire women, but this has not been “entirely effective” so far. Hiring foreigners presents legal challenges.
“For example, a driver from India needs to obtain visas from European countries to enter, which is an additional burden in terms of both time and money. We are considering this issue because, unfortunately, it might turn out that we have no other options,” Balin concluded.
