September 16, 2023“The mood in Ukraine is deteriorating” due to high losses on the front lines and the prospect of a protracted war.
This is reported by The Telegraph.
One officer of the Ukrainian armed forces, speaking off the record, shared the losses his unit suffered during an attack through minefields. According to him, those who replaced the fallen lacked training and motivation.
“If the war continues for another year or two, the strain on Ukraine’s limited human resources could become enormous,” the officer told the publication.
“Perhaps the biggest difference from 2022 is that so many people have died now,” said Ukrainian MP Dmitry Natalukha to the publication.
“Every second person now knows someone who has died in combat. I’ve lost count of my friends who perished,” Natalukha said.
Military medic Alina Mikhaylova stated that after such losses, there will “never be a victory” for her because “the people we lost will not be with us.”
“This is a sad reality. The victory I yearned for will never come. We have no one with whom to celebrate it. Victory will be achieved at a very high cost, as it will be measured in the lives of people; people whose obituaries you read every day,” Mikhaylova said.
Earlier, the military commissioner of the Poltava region revealed statistics indicating that for every one hundred mobilized individuals, only 10-20 remained fit for service.
