17.12.2025 15:02The end of Russia’s war against Ukraine depends on the position of U.S. President Donald Trump and the United States, and in the end everything “will end in peace,” believes Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
He expressed this opinion in an interview with Newsmax.
“Now a lot depends on Trump’s position and the position of the United States of America. The main thing is that Trump does not back away from this position. He is a strong-willed person, sometimes impulsive. The key is that he doesn’t spit on all this, throw up his hands, and walk away. If he continues to move persistently in this direction, then there will be results. Europeans have nothing to shout about here,” Lukashenko said.
Answering the question of “how Zelensky and Putin can achieve peace,” he noted: “I think the situation that is taking shape… will push them toward making that peace happen.”
“And this war will end in peace. The sooner, the fewer people will die,” added the self-proclaimed president of Belarus.
According to Lukashenko, escalation would be bad for Russia because “even more people” would be drawn into the war.
He noted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “must understand and does understand that this could end with Ukraine no longer existing.”
“There must be guarantees. Russia wants guarantees so that this is forever. I know this. Russia wants to conclude such a peace treaty that war will never begin again. Ukraine is also interested in this. Trump is ready to act as guarantor of this. Everything is in place. That’s why things need to move faster,” Lukashenko stressed.
He also believes that everything must be done to ensure that Ukraine and its army “do not rearm during this time, so that the Americans do not supply weapons there together with the Europeans”—so that Russia “has no cause for alarm in this regard.”
Lukashenko is convinced that it is primarily Donald Trump who is pressuring Zelensky regarding the “peace agreement.”
“Because the Europeans got entangled in this, and they whisper in his ear that they will help Zelensky fight. They will help with nothing. They don’t have the resources that the United States of America has. And if the Americans step back from this, escalation will be unavoidable. And then Macron, Merz, and Starmer will understand their mistake,” he concluded.
