September 4, 2024Energoatom denies information about an accident at the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant but confirms the reduction of output from one reactor.
This was reported by the company’s press service.
“No accident has occurred at the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant. An issue was detected in the operation of one of the plant’s reactors, and the unit was unloaded to 33% of its nominal capacity. The issue will be resolved after the restoration of power supply from the plant, ensuring full output to the energy system,” the statement said.
It was reported that this situation is not related to maintenance work but arose due to “complex transitional modes” caused by enemy shelling of Ukrenergo’s infrastructure. These attacks led to “significant fluctuations in network parameters (frequency, voltage, current), to which the reactors were connected, resulting in the disconnection of reactors from the grid.”
Earlier, the director of the Energy Research Center, Oleksandr Kharchenko, citing sources, reported that a 600 MW reactor at the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant reduced its output due to an accident.
Previously, the media reported that during the massive attack on August 26, four reactors were disconnected from the grid at two Ukrainian nuclear power plants: Rivne and South Ukraine.
