Energy expert: this winter will be the hardest since the war began

Energy expert Stanislav Ignatyev has stated that the current winter will be the hardest since the war began, as Ukraine’s energy system is operating on the edge.

According to Ignatyev, Russia continues to systematically strike energy infrastructure facilities — most of which have either been completely destroyed or have sustained significant damage.

The expert expressed particular concern about the capital’s power generation facilities.

“The Darnytsia CHP plant has effectively been destroyed and is privately owned. Therefore, neither Kyiv’s city authorities nor the state budget will be able to invest funds there… The situation with Kyiv’s CHP-5 and CHP-6 plants is also far from simple — we will not see any electricity from them,” the expert explained.

Thus, according to Ignatyev’s assessment, three major combined heat and power plants in Kyiv — the Darnytsia CHP, CHP-5, and CHP-6 — will be unable to supply the capital with electricity during the coming winter period.
