Estonia believes Russia could be ready for a new act of aggression as early as 2027, the commander of the armed forces said

Russia may restore its combat capability and be ready for new aggression as early as 2027.

This was stated by Estonian Defense Forces Commander Andrus Merilo, according to ERR.

According to him, even after the end of the war against Ukraine, Russia will not be deprived of the ability to carry out new military actions.

“It can be predicted that the war in Ukraine will not end with Russia being reduced to an inability to act against us,” the commander noted.

Merilo stressed that the Russian economy has already been put on a war footing, and that the country has significant resources and a large military.

“2027 is the point at which Russia may restore its combat capability, and if it senses an opportunity to use force somewhere else, it will do so,” the official said.

He also noted that Russia continues to conduct reconnaissance and carry out destabilizing activities while simultaneously preparing for possible new conflicts.

In his assessment, countries in the region need to take Ukraine’s experience into account and prepare for potential threats.
