Trump’s peace plan provides for lifting sanctions on Russia – Bloomberg
20.11.2025 - 17:01During the full-scale war, Russia has received €124 billion more from the European Union than Ukraine has.
This was stated by Sweden’s Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard on the sidelines of the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting.
In her view, European support for Ukraine “is not large enough, while support for Russia is too large.”
“This is nothing less than a disgrace. There will be no reasonable peace talks if we do not increase our support for Ukraine and the pressure on Russia,” Stenergard noted.
According to her, since the beginning of the full-scale war, the European Union has paid Russia €311 billion for imports of goods and energy resources, while it has provided €187 billion in aid to Ukraine.
“Over the same period, we imported Russian oil and gas worth €201 billion. And if you add other imported goods, the total amounts to €311 billion. This means that we are providing negative support to Ukraine in the amount of €124 billion,” Stenergard said, showing journalists the corresponding chart.
From the minister’s words it follows that trade with Russia is thriving despite 19 EU sanctions packages and numerous U.S. restrictions.
It should be recalled that recently Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that U.S. President Donald Trump has permanently freed Hungary from American sanctions and allowed it to buy Russian oil.
