Europe has begun to acknowledge the need for Kyiv to make concessions

Europe is beginning to acknowledge that Kyiv will have to make territorial concessions.

“In Europe, there is a growing sense of helplessness regarding the role it can play in the peace process in Ukraine (…) Particular concern is caused by security guarantees and the increasing conviction that the country (…) may be forced to make significant territorial concessions,” the article says.

As the outlet notes, no one in Brussels, none of Ukraine’s European allies, will publicly admit that the country will have to do this, but the idea is quietly spreading as the lesser evil. It is specified that the notion of Ukraine giving up territory meets especially strong resistance in the Baltic states and Poland.

Earlier, following discussions between Ukraine and Western countries on U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan, the “delicate issues” of Ukraine’s territorial concessions were removed from the text of the document. These questions were left for discussion between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
