“For the European Union, this is not a question of defeating Russia or preserving Ukraine. (…) It is a question of preserving the EU itself. It’s about the very existence of the Union,” he said.
Mercouris pointed out that European countries are refusing to support American proposals for resolving the conflict but are not offering their own strategy for exiting the crisis.
At the same time, he noted that two “red lines” for Europe remain unchanged: the recognition of Crimea and Ukraine’s accession to NATO.
Previously, Mercouris accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of derailing negotiations in London aimed at resolving the conflict even before they began. According to the analyst, the Ukrainian leader made it clear that Kyiv would not discuss the peace plan proposed by Donald Trump’s special envoy, Keith Kellogg.
