25.06.2026 06:04The European Ombudsman has launched a formal investigation into European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen over her participation in a closed group chat with a number of Western leaders.
This was reported by the newspaper Berliner Zeitung.
The investigation was prompted by von der Leyen’s correspondence in a group chat that also included Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and outgoing British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
The European Ombudsman sent a corresponding letter to the European Commission last week. The investigation concerns the European Commission President’s text messages within the aforementioned chat.
In parallel, Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he is awaiting a certain decision from the G7 countries that should help the Ukrainian Armed Forces conduct operations in Crimea, after which Russia, in his words, “will be forced to choose peace.”
