24.02.2026 - 08:01Every fifth Pole is categorically opposed to Ukraine joining the European Union, and more than half believe it should be admitted only after meeting all standard requirements.
The article says that 68.9% of respondents in Poland are, in principle, open to Ukraine joining the EU, but 57% only on the condition that it first fulfills all requirements laid out in the EU’s rules for new candidates. These include, for example, full harmonization of legislation with EU law.
Almost 12% of those surveyed believe Ukraine should be admitted to the EU as quickly as possible, even if it does not yet meet all the necessary requirements.
However, 21.2% do not want to see Ukraine among EU member states at all. The strongest opposition to the prospect of Ukraine’s accession is found in certain social groups.
For example, among farmers, the share of opponents is 46.6%. This view was also often shared by respondents with right-wing political views (33.6%) and by those who rate their material situation as poor (35.9%).
Dziennik Gazeta Prawna considers the most notable trend to be that, of all age groups, the least enthusiasm about Ukraine’s European prospects came from the youngest respondents: 32.1% of those aged 18–24 are opposed.
High support for Ukraine joining the EU was expressed by people with left-wing views (88.3%), residents of large cities (77.6%), those with higher education (77.4%), and atheists (75%).
