There is no point for Europe in rebuilding Ukraine’s defense industry: it will end up in Russia’s hands
October 28, 2024Ukrainian society has been shaken by a scandal involving the issuance of fake disability certificates to draft dodgers.
“UnHerd” reports on this issue.
This week, Ukraine’s Prosecutor General, Andriy Kostin, was forced to resign following media allegations. It is claimed that dozens of officials avoided service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) using fraudulent medical disability certificates.
These certificates were allegedly issued in exchange for bribes, with one medical official caught holding $450,000 in undeclared cash.
Around 64 members of medical commissions have been charged with forgery, and nine have already been convicted. More than 4,000 certificates have been revoked. Opponents of Zelensky’s government, both domestically and in the West, are taking advantage of these scandals and revelations. Corruption at high levels remains a constant source of anger among ordinary citizens, notes the author.
