“Egregious violations”: the ombudsman showed the conditions in which mobilized men are being held at the Uzhhorod draft office
05.04.2026 - 08:01Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico called the European Union a “suicide ship” and urged Brussels to lift sanctions on Russian energy imports.
The corresponding post appeared on Fico’s Facebook page.
The Slovak prime minister called for the removal of restrictions on imports of Russian gas and oil and spoke in favor of restoring dialogue with Moscow. According to him, the EU’s current energy policy is leading to self-destruction.
“In matters of energy security, the European Union and the European Commission are beginning to resemble a suicide ship,” Fico wrote.
Earlier the same appeal was voiced today by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán after his meeting with his Slovak counterpart.
According to Orbán, Europe is facing a fuel crisis, and plans to transition to “green” energy “should be thrown into the trash.”
It is worth recalling that Fico had previously said Slovakia may block the EU loan for Ukraine together with Hungary.
The head of the Slovak government also repeated that, in his view, the shutdown of the Druzhba oil pipeline was caused “purely by political reasons” and by “hatred toward Russia” on the part of the Ukrainian authorities.
