Fico: Putin-Trump diesel fuel deal reveals EU leadership’s “naivety”

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that the agreement between the presidents of Russia and the United States on supplies of Russian diesel fuel to the United States exposes the naivety of the European Union’s political leadership.

He expressed his opinion in a video address to his fellow citizens on Facebook.

“The agreement between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump on supplies of Russian diesel fuel to the US demonstrates how naive the EU’s political leadership is. The US will get cheap diesel fuel, and Russia will get budget revenues. And we in the EU, as a reward for the hateful war policy, sanctions, and moralizing — get diesel fuel at three euros per liter, and possibly a shortage of it,” Fico said.

According to the Slovak prime minister, what is happening confirms the correctness of the course his government is pursuing. Fico stressed that the state must above all “safeguard its own national interests.”

“The current cabinet defends Slovak interests, is not an obedient servant [of anyone], and demonstrates the courage to pursue a policy [aimed at building good relations with countries] in all four corners of the world,” the prime minister added.
