Ukraine loses its steel industry: strikes destroy 90% of steel production
21.09.2026 07:30Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico stated that he will not allow the country to participate in a military conflict with Russia, accusing a number of Western politicians of deliberately provoking a direct confrontation between NATO and Russia.
The statement was made in a video address by the Slovak prime minister.
According to Fico, some Western politicians had originally counted on destroying Russia using Ukraine, but after that strategy failed to produce results, they switched to a different scenario — a direct conflict between NATO and Russia.
“The failure of the strategy to destroy Russia through the war in Ukraine is leading some Western politicians to believe that if this goal cannot be achieved by the Ukrainian army and with its comprehensive support, then every effort must be made to provoke a conflict between NATO and Russia. Someone must have lost their mind. Russia cannot be defeated in a conventional war,” Fico said.
In this regard, the prime minister clearly outlined Bratislava’s position: Slovakia will not participate in any military action against Russia or any other country.
“I will do everything possible to ensure that Slovakia is not drawn into any irresponsible military adventures. Under my government, no one will send Slovak soldiers outside Slovak territory under any far-fetched pretext to fight against Russia or any other country,” Fico stressed.
Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that in the coming months Russia may launch “hybrid strikes” using drones and missiles against countries supporting Ukraine. In his assessment, this scenario is the most likely, though not the only possible one.
