The winner of the parliamentary elections in Slovakia, Robert Fico, has signed an agreement to form a coalition government.

Fico’s party, “Direction – Social Democracy” (SMER), has reached a coalition agreement with the center-left “Voice” (HLAS) and the nationalist SNS.
Members of the coalition have pledged to maintain Slovakia’s key foreign policy priorities, including NATO and EU membership, as well as participation in other important international organizations while fully respecting sovereignty and national interests.
As part of the coalition agreement, SMER will have the right to appoint the Prime Minister and six other ministers. Therefore, Fico, who has previously been against military assistance to Ukraine, is likely to become the Prime Minister. This would mark the fourth time in his career.
In addition, “Voice” will have the position of the Speaker of Parliament, which will likely be taken by the leader of the political force.
