May 22, 2024Former Deputy Head of the President’s Office, Andriy Smirnov, has been suspected of illegal enrichment by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU).
This was reported by Ukrainian media, citing sources.
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine has been investigating the case under several articles of the criminal code, including illegal enrichment. The investigation concerns the acquisition of movable and immovable property by Smirnov and his brother between 2020 and 2023, amounting to almost 14 million hryvnias.
Additionally, detectives are investigating the case under Article 366-2 (declaring false information) and Article 368 (accepting an offer or receiving an improper benefit).
A source reported that searches at Smirnov’s residence began this morning.
“The search began at 5:30 a.m., lasted about an hour, and Smirnov’s phone and tablet were seized. The court date for deciding his preventive measure should be set soon,” the source said.
It should be recalled that Smirnov was dismissed on March 29.
