Fourth attempt to escape abroad: draft dodger detained in Zakarpattia

In Zakarpattia, border guards detained a 29-year-old resident of Kolomyia who attempted to illegally cross the border for the fourth time.

The press center of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported this incident.

It’s noted that this Ukrainian citizen had twice “tested” the reliability of the border security in the Odesa region and, for the second time, came to Zakarpattia with the same goal.

“Despite repeated warnings from the border guards and contrary to common sense, the persistent daredevil planned to swim across the fast-flowing Tisa River. The seriousness of the local man’s intentions was vividly demonstrated by the means he intended to use to ‘storm’ this potentially deadly water barrier. It was an inflatable mattress, which is almost the largest floating device the border guards have had to deal with during the prevention of border violations,” the State Border Guard Service reported.

Additionally, the man, of short stature, wore a pink children’s hat to appear as a child and distract the attention of the border guards. To establish all the circumstances of the offense, the man was taken to a border unit.

Over the weekend, the border guards of the Mukachevo unit prevented 13 attempts to breach the state border, leading to the detention of 22 violators.

The men were held accountable for attempting to illegally cross the state border of Ukraine. This type of offense carries a penalty ranging from 3,400 to 13,600 hryvnias or administrative arrest for up to 15 days.
