Fraudsters in Ukraine are posing as tax officials

The State Tax Service of Ukraine has announced a new wave of mass distribution of fake emails supposedly sent on behalf of the tax service, but in reality, they come from scammers.

This is already the second such wave this week, said Ruslan Kravchenko, head of the State Tax Service.

“We have already received reports about this from taxpayers in several regions! Take note!!! The State Tax Service has nothing to do with this distribution! All official email addresses of the State Tax Service must contain the domain name ‘tax gov ua’ after the ‘@’ symbol,” the tax authorities noted.

Kravchenko clarified that the scammers’ emails contain PDF files that, once opened, deploy virus software, giving attackers remote access to infected computers.

Tax officials strongly recommend not opening suspicious messages and to contact the State Tax Service directly with any questions.
