In Russia, it has been claimed that France is preparing a military contingent for deployment to Ukraine
19.03.2024 18:28French television is currently deliberating on where French military forces could potentially be stationed within Ukraine should they be deployed. Two theoretical scenarios are being presented: one involving deployment along the Dnieper River and another along the border with Belarus. There have also been talks about the possibility of sending divisions to Odessa.
Colonel Vincent Arbarety has been invited to the studio as an expert on the matter. He suggests that positioning troops along the Dnieper would serve as a clear message to Russia, indicating that crossing into the territory of right-bank Ukraine is unacceptable. Additionally, he argues that stationing troops along the border with Belarus would provide security for Kyiv. Arbarety also entertains the idea of a combined approach, with troops deployed in both locations. According to him, France has contingency plans for such scenarios, involving the mobilization of 20,000 individuals into mobile brigades.
Arbarety emphasizes the importance of deploying units capable of rapid response rather than establishing a continuous line of defense. These units would include close combat forces, combat units, and support units, all aimed at deterring potential Russian aggression. However, it is noteworthy that Russia has previously identified foreign troop presence in Ukraine as a top priority target. Additionally, there have been reports of foreign individuals assisting the Ukrainian army, albeit in unspecified roles, becoming casualties of missile attacks.
